About the RFSP Program

The RIMA Foundation Scholarship Programme (RFSP) is designed to assist eligible professionals who are constrained in pursuing their career path in data, information, records, document, contents, and archives management,  maintain, enhance, and develop their professional skills.

It is open and priority given to members of the Information Management (IM) Academy, Institute of Information Management (IIM) and other members of the public across Africa respectively.

eligibility

Applicants are not necessarily expected to be members of the RIMA Foundation Information Management (IM) Academy or Institute of Information Management (IIM), but priority is given to members belonging to either of the two organisations. While eligible applicants may be residing anywhere in Africa, those eligible applicants currently posted or assigned outside of the continent will also be eligible. Previous awardees who meet the eligibility requirements may apply again.

Applicants should be aware that, if selected, the Scholarship will reimburse based on advertised scholarship program and conditions.

Proposals will be reviewed by the RIMA Foundation Scholarship board chaired by the President and will include representatives from the advisory board.

Application procedures

Applicants should submit a completed application form, which can be found here.
Applications must contain a one-to-two sentence synopsis followed by a detailed description of the proposed professional development program of activities. The program should be directly related to the applicant’s professional interests and the proposal must explain how the activities will enhance the applicant’s skills or future employment potential. As noted above, proposals may include a wide-range of activities. Proposals should provide a detailed breakdown of the expenses involved and give an indication of how the fund would be used. Applications should be limited to two (2) pages (see application form).
All applications received will be acknowledged by email within three business days of receipt. Unacknowledged applications will not be considered.

Proposals can be submitted as follows:

  • E-mailed to scholarship@rimaw.org
  • Mailed or hand carried to:
    Scholarship Unit,
    RIMA Foundation,
    SAIM House, 35 Association Avenue, Ilupeju
    Lagos Nigeria.
    Selectees will be notified per announcement on RFSP website. The program will run as advertised starting from the approximate signing date of the scholarship grant agreement.

PROJECT COMPLETION

Successful applicants will be expected to complete their proposed professional development program within the stipulated period of selection notification. Scholarship recipients will be required to submit a Project Report describing program activities and accomplishments as well as a Financial Report providing a detailed budget of the project. Those selected can submit receipts for qualifying expenses incurred at any time during the activity but not later than thirty days after project completion. Scholarship recipients are required to commence and complete the activity during the Scholarship program period. There will be no extensions and no exceptions to this requirement.

SELECTION CRITERIA


In selecting grantees, the Selection Committee will consider the following factors:

  • Unavailability of employment options in the applicant’s profession at her/his current post of assignment.
  • Correlation between the proposed activity and professional development of the applicant.
  • Where applicable, a connection between the proposed activity and other effort(s) on the part of the applicant to maintain/refresh her/his professional skills (i.e. if the proposal is part of a larger professional development plan).

SCHOLARSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT

The RIMA Foundation Scholarship Program (RFSP) will be offering scholarship to selected recipients to attend the November 2019 training programme which will be advertised. Interested individuals representing a variety of information management disciplines and goals, are encouraged to apply.
